How it's street legal

Building a street-legal formula car isn't just an engineering challenge, it's a regulatory one. It took countless late nights, regulatory meetings, and a lot of thinking outside the box to make this possible.

Our cars are built and delivered as a 3-wheel autocycle and include a 4-wheel conversion kit. The 3-wheel version is already an absolutely insane machine, and it's what allows us to abide by regulations that finally make a street-legal formula cars possible. We've worked directly with the DOT and NHTSA, and want to clearly explain how the 4-wheel version works on the street.

The 4-wheel conversion kit can be installed anytime after delivery and is designed for the track to unlock full formula-car performance. It's an aftermarket part and is technically not FMVSS-compliant, which is why we can't install it pre-delivery,just like most aftermarket parts such as coilovers, exhausts, or racing harnesses.

Using the 4-wheel version on the street:

  • Registration: Registration renewal is based on VIN and required equipment, all of which remain unchanged. Even in states that require inspection, those generally check lights, mirrors, brakes, and safety equipment. Inspection practices vary by state, but the vehicle's registered configuration renewal process does not
  • Insurance: You must inform your insurer of the aftermarket conversion. Policies may need to be adjusted. In some cases we've even seen rates decrease due to the added stability of the 4-wheel setup.
  • Possible concerns: In rare cases a very knowledgeable officer you could write a ticket for an "illegal modification," similar to an exhaust ticket. This is uncommon and often a "fix-it ticket" where proof of returning to the 3-wheel setup resolves it

And remember; the 3-wheel version is still wild and incredibly fun. You don't have to
install the 4-wheel conversion kit if you don't want to.

Our goal was to make a true formula car street legal. It hasn't been done because it
isn't easy, but with enough research and late nights, we finally made it possible!
